Dear Sunflower Families,
As we move through Term 1 the Sunflower group is beginning to settle into the routine of attending pre-school and being away from mum or dad. This is our youngest group and settling in can take longer for some children as they adjust to separation. We are very aware that it can be an upsetting time for the parents as well so please talk to us if you have any concerns with how your child is managing. On the whole the children are doing really well.
There are many new routines and limits to adjust to. Just the morning tea routine takes time to learn such as:
* listen for the music that tells you morning tea has started,
* bathroom/toilet first
* then one push of the soap dispenser
* count to 10 while washing the hands
* use one paper towel
* put it into the bin not the toilet
* morning tea is on your group’s section of the trolley
* put the drink bottle back on the trolley when you are finished and your container back in your locker!
This is just one small part of the day so it can take quite a while before the whole group takes everything on board.
The children are very much enjoying group time in particular. We are learning simple finger rhymes, such as ‘Mousie Brown’ and ‘What Do You Suppose?’ Music is great fun as they explore simple movement and play circle games. They are developing group skills such as joining in, taking turns and listening to the teacher and their peers.
Rest is another routine that is important for a young child as they take time to relax with a cuddly toy and some peaceful music. At the moment blankets are not necessary but an old fitted cot sheet is great for the bottom sheet as the children can then learn to try and make the beds themselves.
Jenny and I are very much enjoying this delightful group of young children and look forward to the year ahead,
Amanda and Jenny
