Green TreeFrogs - Term 1 2010 - Raj & Fergie

Dear Green Tree Frog families,

We have 2 friends to help look after this year. Their names are Raj and Fergie. The children will have at least one turn with each of these friends during the year.

They are very easy to look after, just requiring company and to be included in your familys activities. The diary is a record of their adventures at your place, feel free to include anything about his stay in whatever way you feel comfortable.

When your child returns their friend they will share their diary entries with the group, through recalling events, talking about any photos, tickets etc that they may have collected. The other children will hone their listening skills as they hear of their weekly adventure and ask questions.

Our hope is that this project becomes a living, ongoing story that provides many opportunities for your child to become involved in literacy experiences. With your help your child will be involved in writing for a real purpose, recalling events whilst you scribe, drawing pictures, collecting tickets, maps, photographs, takeaway menus, pamphlets about places you may have gone as a family and taken their friend. All these literacy experiences can then be shared with the whole group..

Please do not feel that you have do anything special while you have them; every day experiences are great, as your child talks about your family, where you live, a favourite meal etc. Also do not feel any pressure to produce a fantastic page it is all about the children enjoying the experience of taking one of our special friends home with them and becoming engaged in literacy practice. You might only get one chance to write up one days happenings it will be enough for them to recall some of the events to speak to the group about.

We hope that you enjoy this experience with your child, please dont feel any stress.

Libby, Paula and Johanna
